About Shannon
In my roles as a mother, school psychologist, yoga practitioner/teacher and scholar my passions and profession collide in a way that allows me to support and advocate for the social-emotional and academic well-being for our most marginalized students. My yoga and meditation offerings are most often community-based (in schools, centers, or other community spaces), emphasizing both authenticity and accessibility.
Currently, I am a 5th year doctoral student in the School Psychology program at the University of Maryland-College Park and a predoctoral intern at Kennedy Krieger Insitute - Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress/Center for Developmental Behavioral Health.
I am a nationally certified school psychologist, and have more than 10 years of experience as a school psychologist in elementary and secondary public school settings. That experience informed my research interests, which centers the overarching goal to reclaim schools and community spaces as sites of wellness and liberation for Black and non-Black students of color. I use art-based and multimodal research methods to partner with, and learn from children, families, and educators with marginalized identities.
I received my B.A. in English Writing and B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, along with with MS.Ed and Advanced Graduate Certificate from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College. I live in Maryland with my husband and our two boys.
